Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is small on sky scrapers, but big on experience.

This Queensland seaside town is a favourite with locals - who flock to town during their holidays to take advantage of the calm waters of the Great Sandy Strait... and to head out on Fraser for a little 4x4 fun

If you've got a thirst for adventure, love water sports and the great outdoors or feel like taking a little time out from your hectic travelling schedule, then this is the place for you.

About Hervey Bay

Do As Much Or As Little As You Like In This Seaside Town

Hervey Bay is not only the gateway to Fraser Island, but this little holiday haven also offers fun, adventure experiences in the great outdoors.

If you're in the market to relax, Hervey Bay offers a long esplanade to while away hours and the clear, calm waters of the Great Sandy Strait to cool down. Why not hire a bike and make your way along the beach front on a sunny day; head to the Urangan Boat Harbour for an indulgent massage at Serendipity or to the Boat Club to share a beer with new mates.

Ask your Palace Hostels hostel staff about the local markets - you might just pick up the perfect souvenir to send home; take a camel safari on the beach; or, for a touch of normality, head down to the local cinema and catch your favourite action heroes on screen.

Looking to party... we can help with that too. Hervey Bay is a backpacker favourite and there are plenty of beach bars, hostels and pubs where the locals go - and all within walking distance. The foreshore is dotted with cafes and eateries - with cool breezes and views of the water!

Looking for something slightly more adventurous? Here's our top tips of things do in town...

Take a Palace Adventures Tour to Fraser Island... you're on our website, so you can see how much fun is in store. We're flexible, our guides are local and we'll guarantee you a great time out on the biggest sand island in the world!

Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Kite Surfing with Enzo Andreuzzi. Enzo's on the Beach is located on the Esplanade (near Scarness) and is a water sport mecca.  You can also snorkel or dive off Hervey Bay's artificial reef - it's the largest man made reef in the southern hemisphere!

Take a walk or cast a line off the iconic Urangan Pier - it's a popular spot with locals in summer and a great place to catch a sunset.  If you feel like getting a little bit wet - head to Wetside - Hervey Bay's new zero-depth water park.

Larry from Aquavue (also on the Esplanade) reckons he's got some of the best coffee in town. While you're there why not hire a jet ski and explore the Great Sandy Strait.  Larry and this team also hire catamarans and canoes and can take you for a sail. Ask about the Fraser Island jet ski tour - and make sure you pack your sunscreen.

Take to the skies and micro-lite or sky dive over Fraser Island - it's a thrill a minute... but keep your fingers crossed that the wind doesn't whip up. Or motor around the Bay on a Scooter - you just need a car licence; or book a Trike Tour.

Susan River Homestead Adventure Resort has recently opened a wakeboarding park, which will help you cool down on a Queensland summer's day. For nature lovers the park also takes guests trail riding on their 1660 acre property.

Hervey Bay is the whale watching capital of Australia - so join the flotilla as they head out daily from August until the end of October in search of the giant Humpbacks.  These whales take time out of their migration schedule to spend time in the calm waters of the Great Sandy Strait - which means great whale watching and even better photos for you!
